April in Virginia, Central Virginia, charlottesville virginia usa, spring flowers, Virginia garden
It is that time of year, when I am about at my end with winter.
Nearly ready to take a long walk off a short pier. My rescue?
My collection of heirloom daffodils emerge to save the day.
Below is a collection of recent cuttings — please enjoy.
I am in love again…

close up ~ notice the minute tip on the petal. The design department worked overtime on this detail!
I hope these images cheer your day.
Freshly inspired to head off into another growing season here in central Virginia,
I daresay, hurrah!

How lovely! And just perfect in the cobalt vases. Daffodils sure do bring a feeling of relief with them, don’t they? Winter is finally, really, over!

Two hard frosts this week made for wild attempts to save the blueberries and persimmon tree buds. Mother Nature is a challenge! Happy Spring Jeanne! ‘-)
For five hours a small helicopter flew over the VERY close vineyard in their attempts to ward off killing frost…sleepless night!

I have a variety of daffs blooming in my garden, too that have been a wonderful way to welcome spring. They shrugged our recent cold blast, which makes me love them even more.
I have sparrows that have nested in my bluebird house. Should I take the nest out of will the blues kick them out? They use the same house every year. The sparrows made a nest but we’re having our patio rebuilt right now and I haven’t seen them for a few days.

Glad you too love your daffs.
Remove the sparrow nest, as these are probably the vermin English sparrow, nemesis of the Bluebird…those sparrows KILL BB and their chicks. Thanks for asking! If there are sparrow eggs, destroy them too, as you do not want more of them. English Sparrows are not native to the US and are not protected by wild bird laws…good luck.

Bluebirds will NEVER evict sparrows from BB boxes. They are much too meek, and the English or House Sparrow is vicious!

You have inspired my day indeed! Great loveliness all around. Daffodils are a true favorite of mine, and their aroma smells distinctly of Spring to me. And what gorgeous vases! The cobalt blue sets off their striking yellows perfectly. All these photos send me happily swooning. I especially needed this today since, well Mother Nature’s sense of humor knows no bounds as it’s snowing again up here! So my daff and allium tips will just have to endure a hat of white (luckily bulbs can do that!).
Thanks DIane. hugs, Gina

I know what you mean about Mother Nature’s bizarre sense of humor…twisted!
31F here this AM and my efforts to sheet the blueberries and persimmon were woefully unsuccessful, as the wind lifted all coverings off! Will be a sad day if I have no fruit this year! 80F one day then the next 31F. Crewel!
